Where to Start

Desigining and choosing your window treatments can be incredibly daunting. But, there are so many tips and tricks out there that can help get you started. For our first post on our blog, it's only fitting to start with a list of quick tips on where to begin:

1. Determine what you want from your window treatment. Do you need privacy, light blocking, or are you just interested in the decorative look? For a complete glossary on window treatment terms and functions see Getting Started. Rental Decorating is a great source for quick ideas especially for the apartment/condo dweller. Their Window Treatment Glossary also offers a clear understanding of what all of the foreign terms mean.

2. Measure your windows. This can also be a daunting task, but there are many services that are available to help. Measuring & Installation services are now popping up everywhere. They are there to take the worry out of measuring your own windows so you can make sure your treatments are ordered correctly. Installers are very knowledgable about the mounting options available, but if you are a DIY-er and want to try this yourself, here's a guide for How to Measure.

3. Choose the window treatment that is right for you. There are a lot of options to choose from, but the trick is finding one that will look great with your existing decor and function needs. It's best to order swatches so you can touch the actual material and put it next to your furniture and other coordinating items in your home.

4. Final tip...don't panic!
